Endgame tables (Table Bases).

All the positions with 5 pieces on the board and some of the most important with six, are organized into a group of files called the "Table Bases" (TB). With each position recorded, by perfect play, one can win, draw or lose irremediably. Besides, it's also recorded the exact number of moves required to arrive at the end of the main variation, that is to say, a variation in which both sides always do the best possible move. The Table Bases can be obtained freely on Internet or bought in CD or DVD (taking several Gbytes of storage)

As mentioned in the section Calculation engines or modules, those programs can use the tablebases to improve his game notably in the endgame. Besides, the viewer can access the tablebases to inform us in any position what would be the exact outcome to the game.

In order that the viewer can use the tablebases, it is necessary to indicate the path to the folders that contain the corresponding files by means of the button Configure options, Endgames tab.

Up to 4 folders can be specified. In the previous image 3 folders are specified, containning the tables for 4, 5 and 6 pieces, respectively.

The tablebases are used from the Blackboard," by means of the button highlighted in the following image:

When pressing it the tablebases are initialized:

If the position on the board exists in the tablebases, a new window will open to indicate the result for each of the legal moves.

If you double click on any line in that table, the navigation buttons will show up under the board so that we can replay the whole line.
